Day 3 El Valle Anton

P A driver/guide picked us up at the hotel for a 2 hour ride west of Panama City to a village that was built in a lush valley in the middle of a 300,000 year old dormant volcano. We enjoyed getting out of the city and into the countryside of Panama.  This fairly young country is in the midst of massive reconstruction projects everywhere.  The ownership of the Panama Canel brings over 1 Billion dollars profit into the country annually and has created a tourism market that brings in as much annually.
The 300,000 year old dormant volcano where we visited the village of Anton.  It is very tropical and surrounded by jungle and flowers, etc

Fruit stands along the way made my mouth water from the wonderful fragrances of fresh harvested fruit,

Local pottery and fabrics from the area... It is easy to see the connection between Mexico and Panama

These ancient drawings were discovered over 50 years ago and were determined to be around 1000 years old . They are maps which cover hundreds of miles of travel by the ancient people who traveled through the region.
The young children are taught the histories and meanings of the drawings and then they act as guides into the canyon where the drawings have been preserved.

Our guide in Roul and is is 10 years old.  We were really impressed with his knowledge and self-confidence in telling the meanings of the drawings.

We did a little hiking through the jungle to a waterfall on property that is privately owned by a family who have dedicated their lives and land to the ecological preservation of forests, water, and animals.
